Ambassador Emiliou responds to New York Times article on Cyprus

Statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the recent massacre in Darayya, Syria, 29.08.12

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Dr Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, stated Wednesday 29.8.12 in response to the recent of killings civilians in the city of Darayya, in Syria:

“I am extremely disturbed by reports of the recent, brutal massacre in Darayya, Syria, involving civilian population, including women and young children. If the reports are confirmed, then I would characterize these killings as a heinous act, amounting to crimes against humanity, which should be investigated immediately in an independent and impartial manner. Cyprus participated in the Tenth United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names and the Twenty-Seventh Session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names held in New York

The Tenth United Nations Conference on the Standardization of Geographical Names was held at the UN headquarters in New York from 31 July until 9 August, and the Twenty-Seventh Session of the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names was held in New York on 30 July and 10 August 2012. At the Conference and the Session, 110 countries with 280 delegates, special agencies, intergovernmental organizations, international organizations and relevant scientific observers participated. Η Κύπρος στη Δέκατη Διάσκεψη των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για την Τυποποίηση Γεωγραφικών Ονομάτων, 31 Ιουλίου- 9 Αυγούστου 2012, Νέα Υόρκη

Συνήλθε στην έδρα του ΟΗΕ  η Δέκατη Διάσκεψη των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για την Τυποποίηση Γεωγραφικών Ονομάτων στην Νέα Υόρκη από 31 Ιουλίου μέχρι και 9 Αυγούστου και η Εικοστή Έβδομη Σύνοδος της Ομάδας Εμπειρογνωμόνων των Ηνωμένων Εθνών για τα Γεωγραφικά Ονόματα στην Νέα Υόρκη στις 30 Ιουλίου και στις 10 Αυγούστου 2012. Στην Διάσκεψη και στη Σύνοδο έλαβαν μέρος  110 χώρες με 280 αντιπροσώπους, ειδικά πρακτορεία, διακυβερνητικοί οργανισμοί, διεθνείς σχετικοί επιστημονικοί οργανισμοί και παρατηρητές. [Read more…]

Cyprus PR Emiliou and EU Commissioner Georgieva sign Food Assistance Convention on behalf of the European Union
