The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations, Ambassador Andreas D. Mavroyiannis, was today elected as Chair of the Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary Committee) for the 74th session of the General Assembly. In his speech during the first formal meeting of the Fifth Committee of the 74th session, Ambassador Mavroyiannis expressed his gratitude for the honour bestowed on him and Cyprus, and conveyed his appreciation to the Group of Asia-Pacific States for endorsing his candidature to this important and challenging post of presiding over the deliberations of the Committee. In assuming the Chairmanship, he assured of his commitment to a timely and results-oriented session.
