CURRICULUM VIITAE 

Maria Michail was born in Nicosia, Cyprus, in 1973. She graduated from the University of Leicester, UK in 1994 with a BA in Politics and obtained an MA in European Studies from the University of Surrey, UK in 1995.

She joined the Diplomatic Service in 1997 and served consecutively in the Protocol and Consular Affairs Division, and the Cyprus Question and Turkey Division, before her first assignment abroad at the Embassy of Cyprus in Washington, D.C, in 2000.

In 2003 she was appointed Deputy High Commissioner in London, and between 2006-2007 served at the Foreign Minister’s Cabinet.

In 2008 she served as Deputy Director of the Cyprus Question and Turkey Division and between 2009- 2012, she got posted as Deputy Permanent Representative at the Mission of Cyprus to the United Nations in Geneva.

In April 2012 she was appointed as High Commissioner of Cyprus to India, with parallel accreditation to Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, The Maldives, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

In July 2015 she returned to Nicosia where she served as Head of the Department of Eastern Europe, Western Balkans and Central Asia, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Between September 2017- July 2018, she headed the Crisis Management Department at the MFA. In August 2018, she assumed her duties as Director of the Cyprus Question and Turkey Directorate.

Since September 2022 until November 2023, she served as Ambassador of Cyprus to Austria with parallel accreditation to Slovenia, and Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other International Organizations in Vienna.

She is fluent in Greek and English.

Maria Michail is married to Vladimir Gluhoded.
