Femicide is the most brutal and extreme manifestation of violence against women and girls,  rooted in gender inequality,  stereotyped gender roles, discrimination towards women and girls or harmful social norms. Femicide takes place in all regions and countries around the world. Globally, an estimated 81,100 women and girls were killed intentionally in 2021. This side event will discuss ways to strengthen responses to gender related killings and other forms of gender based violence against women and girls on a local, national and international level.

The Permanent Missions of Cyprus and Malta, together with UN Women and UNODC, are organising a CSW67 side event entitled:

“Breaking the silence on femicide: ending gender based violence against women and girls”

The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations, New York, is accepting applications for the position of one (1) Clerk/Typist with the terms of local staff on a full-time contract basis for a period of one year with the possibility of renewal. The salary scale of the position is the entry level of the GS-5 Scale with an annual gross salary of US$41,981. Undergraduate/postgraduate students may apply for an internship at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Cyprus to the United Nations in New York, throughout the year.

Applicants are required to:

(a) hold Cypriot citizenship,

(b) have completed at least a two-year university course (i.e. 60 ECTS),

(c) have very good knowledge of the Greek and English language.

Internships are unpaid and do not incur financial burden for the State in allowances, insurance cover, etc.

Application forms must be sent either to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by e-mail at internship@mfa.gov.cy, or to the Permanent Mission of Cyprus at internhsips@cyprusun.org

The applicant’s details will be kept on file and they may be invited to an interview if shortlisted, depending on their qualifications, experience, and skills. Applicants may also be offered the possibility of an internship for an alternative period.

Interns are required to sign a Contract on a non-remunerative basis, which will include, inter alia, a confidentiality clause in respect to data and information that may come to their attention during the internship period.
