United Nations Security Council Open Debate “Women, Peace, and Security: towards the 25^th Anniversary of Resolution 1325”

 Madame President,

Firstly, allow me to thank you for organizing this very important debate on the eve of International Women’s Day. My statement will be complementing that of the European Union, to which we fully subscribe.

Almost 23 years have elapsed since the unanimous adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325. This was a historic moment as it was the first time the Security Council recognized the role of women in peace and security. As we come closer to the 25^th Anniversary of the resolution, it is imperative to have a stock taking on what we have achieved so far, but mostly where we need to be by 2025 for the Resolution’s full implementation.
