July 20th, 2014 marks the 40th year since Turkey, in flagrant violation of International Law, invaded and occupied one third of Cyprus, an independent, sovereign state, member of the UN. As a consequence, almost one third of Cyprus’ population became refugees in their own country and are still denied the right to return to their homes and properties and over 1600 Greek Cypriots went missing as a result of the invasion. Ημέρα Διεθνούς Ποινικής Δικαιοσύνης: Γιατί η Κύπρος συμμετέχει στον εορτασμό της επετείου
Στις 17 Ιουλίου 1998 υιοθετήθηκε το “Καταστατικό της Ρώμης”, η συνθήκη βάσει της οποίας εγκαθιδρύθηκε το Διεθνές Ποινικό Δικαστήριο (ΔΠΔ). Για να σηματοδοτηθεί αυτό το ορόσημο αλλά και οι σημαντικές κατακτήσεις που έχουν επιτευχθεί γενικότερα στο διεθνές ποινικό δίκαιο, η 17η Ιουλίου έχει καθιερωθεί ως «Ημέρα Διεθνούς Ποινικής Δικαιοσύνης».
