Security Council | Distr.: General
14 July 2008 Original: English |
Letter dated 10 July from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council
I have the honour to refer to my mission of good offices and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
You will recall that on 9 April 2008, I informed the Council of my intention to appoint Taye-Brook Zerihoun as my Special Representative and Head of UNFICYP for a period of one year. The appointment was effective from 1 May 2008.
In its resolution 1818 (2008), the Security Council welcomed my intention to appoint a Special Adviser on Cyprus at the appropriate time. Following the usual consultations, I wish to inform you that I intend to designate Alexander Downer (Australia) as my Special Adviser on Cyprus as from 14 July 2008, with the rank of Under-Secretary-General.
I should be grateful if you would bring this matter to the attention of the members of the Security Council.
(Signed) Ban Ki-moon
