The Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, 24.09.12

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis, met Monday, 24 September in New York with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Mr Isayev Asein Kuseinovich, with whom she discussed ways of strengthening and deepening bilateral relations, as well as the relations between the EU and Kyrgyzstan. The Minister of Foreign Affairs also briefed the Kyrgyz official on the latest developments on the Cyprus problem. Furthermore, Dr Kozakou-Marcoullis raised the issue of Erhan Arikli’s arrest by the Kyrgyz authorities, stressing the seriousness of the murder case, and asking for the suspect’s extradition to Cyprus. “We expect Kyrgyzstan to cooperate with the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus and not to allow [the suspect’s] departure from the country until the completion of all the necessary procedures for his issue,” the Foreign Minister said. She also asked her interlocutor to brief his country’s authorities about the official request of the Cyprus Government.
