President Anastasiades is Visiting New York for the General Assembly

 Cyprus President will visit New York to attend the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly

The President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades will be visiting New York from 21 to 27 September 2014, leading Cyprus’s delegation during the High-level week of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly. The President will be accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Andri Anastasiadou, the Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and the Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides.

President Anastadiades at the UN has a busy schedule including bilateral meetings and UN conferences and while in New York he will have contacts with leaders of Cypriot Diaspora, Jewish and other organizations. On Monday, 22 September, President Anastasiades will hold a meeting with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and will host a working luncheon with the Five Permanent Members of the Security Council. On Friday 26 September in the morning he will address the 69th Session of the General Assembly. A press conference by the President to the UN accredited journalists and correspondents will follow his speech.

President Anastasiades on Tuesday 23 September will join more than a 100 world leaders that have committed to attend the UN Secretary-General’s one day Climate Summit aiming at galvanizing political will and creating momentum towards a successful conclusion in Paris for a new legally binding agreement on climate change that would put the world on a more sustainable path. President Anastasiades will address the Summit in the morning and attend other events and meetings related to the Summit.

President Anastasiades will also hold a series of bilateral meetings with other Heads of State and Government and Foreign Ministers visiting the UN including the Deputy Prime Minister of Greece , US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

On Monday evening, 22 September, President Anastasiades will inaugurate a Photo Exhibition hosted by the Consul Generals of Cyprus and Israel in cooperation with Greek, Cypriot and Jewish organizations in the US. The exhibition is dedicated to Jewish refugees, from 1946 to 1949, in Cyprus, en route to Israel. The President will also attend a testimonial dinner on Friday 26 September hosted by the Cyprus Federation of America.

President Anastasiades will return to Cyprus on Saturday 27 September.
