Mr. Secretary General, Mr. President, Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today’s meeting is held against the background of the recent worrying developments in the world and massive abuses of human rights.

The rule of law is a fundamental principle upon which the European Union is based. As the country currently holding the rotating Presidency of the Union, I wish to highlight that this is a guiding principle of all of the EU’s internal and external action. CYPRUS PRESIDENT ATTENDS THE 67TH SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias will visit New York on 23 September 2012 to attend the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly.  President Christofias will address the General Debate on 25 September, the opening day of the UN General Assembly. On 24 September, the President of Cyprus will deliver a speech at the High-level Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on the Rule of Law.  On 26 September the President will give a Press Conference to UN accredited journalists.
